Miramar wharf clean up a success!

When 2 forces join together for the same goal, mountains will be moved. In this case mountains of rubbish hidden below the water around the Miramar Wharf!

img_9661On Sunday, 55 people from the Worser Bay School Community and The Wellington Underwater Club took a few hours out of their day to remove 2000L of rubbish from the Miramar Wharf area, with the majority of it coming from Underwater!
Island Bay Marine Centre went through each and every can and bottle to rescue any wildlife caught inside. This included sea stars, crabs, fish, octopus’ and sea cucumbers to name a few.
The divers were also greeted by a happy seal throughout the morning who seemed to be thrilled at finally seeing some of that rubbish gone!
Plastic Free Peninsula wants to thank all the groups and organisations who came out and made this happen. Wellington Underwater Club’s enthusiastic divers, Island Bay Marine Education Centre for all the wildlife rescue, Sustainable Coastlines and Love Your Coast for providing gloves, bags and guidance and of course our supportive school community!
Love the PFP team
